Nominate your hero as Lambeth Carer of the Year
Time is running out for you to nominate your Lambeth Carer of the Year. The deadline is on August 5th. It is easy to nominate someone and a great way to show your appreciation.
The award recognises and celebrates the hard work and commitment of those people who look after family, partners or friends voluntarily because they are ill, frail or have a disability.
They may have overcome particular difficulties or barriers, tackled specific challenges to address unusual or unexpected circumstances, or been particularly creative or innovative in finding a solution to a challenge to benefit the person they care for.
To be eligible, carers must be Lambeth residents or caring for a Lambeth resident.
Last year John Snusher was awarded the Carer of the Year title. Mr Snusher from West Norwood has looked after his friend Gail for almost 15 years. Gail has multiple sclerosis and John has been there for her every day since she was diagnosed despite him reaching his seventies.
The 2011 Lambeth Carer of the Year will be announced at an awards ceremony in September.
Up and down the UK there are six million people caring unpaid for an ill, frail or disabled family member or friend.
Carers help with personal things like getting someone dressed, turning them in their sleep, helping them to the loo, helping them move about or administering their medication. Carers also help with things like shopping, laundry, cleaning, cooking, filling in forms or managing money.
For more information on how to nominate please visit Lambeth Council's website at www.lambeth.gov.uk/carersawards or call Bola Sowoolu, Carers Coordinator, on 0207 926 4626.
