Volunteers Needed! to help out at Inclusive Cycling Sessions

Are you interested in volunteering or you may know people who are interested in volunteering? The Wheels For Well-being  programme was set up to support people wanting to volunteer as a step back into work and to help them improve their wellbeing through cycling and volunteering. They help disabled people discover the joy of cycling and have a range of cycles, tricycles, tandems, go-karts and more to try.

The next supported volunteer programme at Herne Hill Velodrome runs on Mondays from 20th April to 8th June, 10.30am to 12.30pm. Outline below, Hurry, as there is a max 6 places available;

Meet the team and try the cycles over two sessions then six training sessions;

1.             Induction - meet the team, tour of the site and introduce the programme plus Social Model of Disability,  Health and Safety, First Aid and emergency procedures.

2.             Volunteering – learn about the roles; Cycle volunteer, Reception volunteer and Refreshment volunteer.

3.             Health and Safety and Customer Service - how to ensure people have fun and stay safe; doing risk assessments.

4.             Group cycle lesson - basic road skills on quiet roads, use your own or borrow one of our cycles.

5.             Spot the fault - basic cycle maintenance, checking for faults, repairing punctures, adjusting seats, checking chain, gears and brakes.

6.             Volunteer - alongside volunteer or staff member. Discuss future volunteering opportunities with us.
