Carers’ Forums

Working with other carers’ services, the Carers’ Hub run regular Carers’ Forums during the year.

These are for specific carer groups with an overarching Forum to bring together all carers’ issues, concerns and ideas. Forums will provide opportunities for carers to meet other carers and speakers to share views, experiences and information. They will help carers to identify their needs and advocate for these and ensure that carers are included in the planning, development and implementation of services.

The next Carers' Forum will be held on 19 October, 11am to 2pm at Stockwell YMCA, 44 Stockwell Rd, SW9 9ES, includes buffet lunch.

This forum was held on 23 March at the Stockwell Community Resource Centre.  Councillor Peter Robbins, who is a Lambeth Councillor for Larkhall Ward was our guest speaker.  A full write up is available in our Summer 2011 newsletter, http://carershub.org.uk/advice/newsletter

Carers’ Forum September 2010

This forum was held on 30 September at 336 Brixton Road.  Jenni Bonner introduced herself to everyone and let them know about plans for the future for Carers’ Hub services.  There were a number of workshops on different subjects, including working and caring, back care, carers assessments and advocacy and mentoring.  The information stalls from other organisations are a welcome addition to our forums and will be a regular part of them from now on. You can read Carers' Hub Lambeth manager Jenni Bonner's report here http://www.carershub.org.uk/files/Report on Carers Forum Sept2010.pdf

Carers’ Forum June 2010

This forum was during Carers Week in June. It took place at the Accord Centre, 336 Brixton Road. We met with the carer’s coordinator for Lambeth Council, heard from a new counselling service available to carers and had group discussions about carers having time for themselves.  We also invited other organisations to have information stalls for carers to find out more about what is available in Lambeth.

Carers’ Forum February 2010

The first general Carers’ Forum took place on 24 February 2010 at the Accord Centre, 336 Brixton Road.

Over 60 people attended on the day and got involved in debating carers’ issues with Elizabeth Clowes from Lambeth Council’s Commissioning Services as well as hearing from the Carers’ Hub directors of each charity involved in the consortium, which is delivering the new carers’ services.  Following the debate, there was an opportunity for carers to express what they felt about services in Lambeth in the focus groups.  Afterwards, lunch was provided so everyone could meet up and socialise.
