Peer Mentoring Service
The Mentoring Service is a free support service for carers and former carers of older people, adults with a physical or learning disability, parent carers, and adults with mental health needs.
The volunteer mentors provide one to one support by visiting clients within their homes to help them access services, information, advice, employment, training, assist with housing issues and social activities, as well as providing them with a listening ear. They can make calls on the client's behalf; attend appointments, and social events as agreed with the client.
For bereaved carers, the mentor can offer support to the carer as they begin to make the huge adjustments that are required for them following the death of the cared for.
The project also offers 6 sessions of Life Coaching to the cared for, through the provision of individualised 1:1 coaching sessions, which are tailored to meet individual needs.
Referral to the project is usually done by self-referral - or via the Hub.
