Older Carers Peer Support Groups
The Older Carers Peer to Peer Support Group Project - Funded by City Bridge Trust
With the help of volunteers, we aim to set up and facilitate (for up to 12 months per group), small peer to peer support groups for older carers across Lambeth and the South West London, to provide emotional support, friendship, information and signposting. Anyone that joins a group will automatically become a member of the Carers Hub and we will keep in touch with them for as long as they need us (or for up to a year after their caring role finishes), via our newsletters, communications and invites to Carers Hub Lambeth Carer Forums and other events.
Joining a group
Anyone in Lambeth (or near lambeth) aged 65 or over, who is an unpaid carer can join a group. We aim to set up several all over Lambeth so they can be local. They will typically take place in a coffee shop or other social environment, near public transport, for about 1 hour and will be small and informal. Carers don’t need to commit to coming regularly and it doesn’t matter who you are caring for. Those that have recently finished their caring role, in the last 6 months, are also welcome to attend. Initially they will be led by the project lead or volunteer facilitator, with the aim that eventually the group will share the leading and facilitation duties between the members, with support from the Carers Hub.
